Trusting God

Jeremiah 17:5–8

This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.

They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

I came across the above text in one of my devotions earlier this week and I still find myself going back to it. There is a wonderful imagery in this text. The comparison of trusting human means or trusting God's will is contrasting to say the least. But, it is a great encouragement to those of us who are living our life as Christ Followers.

If we go back to the beginning of scripture we see that the enemy was able to tempt Eve by getting her to question the trustworthiness of God. I think that is still true today. When it doesn't appear God has shown up or he isn't doing what we think should be done, we can trust in human means.

Yet, when we hang in there and trust in God, no matter the cost, our lives are full of his grace and mercy. We won't live in fear, we will live in fruitfulness. That is how I want my life to be. A life that is well nourished and bringing glory to God. Take a moment and study the passage in Jeremiah 17. Be encouraged to keep trusting and believing in the faithfulness of God. Let's be a people who are confident, not in ourselves, but in the power and presence of our Lord.

My prayer this week has been for God to show me the areas of my life that I struggle to trust him. I don't won't to live in a spiritual wasteland, so I am asking God to reveal and reshape those areas of my life. How about you? Are there areas of life you are struggling to trust God with? I am praying for you and if there is anything specific I can be praying for, please let me know.

Bless ya!
Pastor Brent
